the long way up the north coast
three days of driving with no plan past the next pull-off. the ocean stayed grey the whole time and i didn't mind once.
not albums. moments - a photo, a passing thought, the thing i saw and wanted to keep. quietly grouped into experiences over time, and only ever meant for me.
still on the coast road. phone's almost dead and that feels correct.
grouped on their own - by when they happened, where i was, and the patterns that kept repeating. no folders, no filing. they just find each other.
three days of driving with no plan past the next pull-off. the ocean stayed grey the whole time and i didn't mind once.
i kept ending up out past midnight. the rain made everything a reflection of something else.
same corner, same light coming in sideways, same first cup. the pattern is the point.
delete the album. keep the moment.
still on the coast road. phone's almost dead and that feels correct.
pulled over because the water went the color of slate all at once. stood there long enough that the engine ticked cool.
morning fog burning off the ridge
i keep making albums no one opens. moments i actually revisit. so: moments.
no sign, no plan, kept driving
lily decided the sun spot was hers today
everyone else had gone in. i had the crossing to myself for about forty seconds and it felt like the city was breathing.
rain on the window, the whole street turned to color
a good morning is just the same small things in the same small order.
first cup, sideways light
the streetlight through the wet glass looked like a photo someone else already took. i kept it anyway.
empty road, last of the light
three years ago today, same coast, same grey water.
lily keeps showing up.
she turns up in more of these than anyone.
